random image today - this is JFK's grave site. a timely random image.

Couldn't sleep last night. As a result I am feeling rather punk today. The weather is spring like - so rather than stay home and wallow in tiredness - I decided to walk down to the Apple store and really look at the new iPods. And listen to them with my own ear buds.

So, here is the verdict. The Shuffle is cute. It always was cute. It sounds good. But, I have a couple of non-cute, non-iPod little players that run on AAA batteries and have built in FM radios. So, no need for a Shuffle.

Next up it the Nano. IMHO, the Nano is going to fly off the shelves this holiday season. It sounds great. Better, I think than the Classic. And, it has a lovely screen to better watch TV shows and to look at your Album Art. It seems to be sized to fit into that little watch pocket on men's levi's and when you consider what Steve Jobs always wears - maybe it was.

I really really wanted to love the iTouch. Love it enough to spring for one. But, I think one needs to wait on the next version of the iTouch. What you are buying is the display. And, it just isn't as good as the display on the iPhone. And, the typing feature and I didn't get along too well. That would end up driving me crazy.

For me the winner would be the biggest iPod Classic. With 160 gig drive - plenty of room for all my stuff and space to spare to use as a backup hard drive. Now, if only they made a red one.

As for me, my faithful old g4 iPod with the 60gig drive is all loaded up with tunes and lots of audio books for the trip to Hawaii.
