bendix g-15
Time to remember the good old days. My first computer was the Bendix G-15. It was about as tall as I was. It was designed by a Dr Huskey. He worked with Alan Turing and he might still be alive. This chunky turquoise computer had about 400 vacuum tubes. We programmers had a couple of boxes of tubes and a dental mirror. If the machine started acting strange we would look around for a dead tube,
This baby cost about 50K. Bendix gave Dr Huskey a G-15 and he kept it in his garage. He is considered to have had the original home computer. We had two. One was in our office. Our office was in a defunct Frat House and the computer was installed in the old kitchen. We installed the other one in a WV Bus. Dr Huskey came to see our "portable computer".
