Well, is it going to be the MacBook Air or the Lenovo X301? They cost about the same. MacBook is way cooler – Lenovo is way better equipped. Form or Function? Which will run Ubuntu the best.
grumble bitch whine
Just noticed that my rainy day saving earned a big 86 cents interest this month. MomIda’s mantra of Don’t Spend the Principal ain’t hacking it in the 21st century. Think the old Cash is Trash mantra might be more appropriate.
A new plan for a new reality: When not earning interest, spend on items of interest.
Still playing around with new lens
The new lens seems to work well for just normal photographs. And,
the lens can stand in as a closeup lens with cropping.
nothing much today
Watched Senator Kennedy’s funeral Mass and explained all things Catholic to Carlton. Catholic does great theater. Only`the insiders noticed that Ted was dissed bigtime by tbe high command of the church.
pink
No new pictures today. Volunteer, rain storm, and a nap derailed photography.
Just curious: I wonder what sarah palin is doing for health insurance these days? Unfortunately I fear that any sort of real health care reform is toast. And that it will be another 15 years before the democrats decide to try again. Is it uncharitable for me to hope that all the screaming lunatics end up waiting on line for free care when Remote Area Medical comes to their town?
the new lens
Took the L1 and new lens to the zoo this morning. It was hot as hades. All sensible animals were in their air-conditioned quarters. But, one of the pandas was outside – eating a giant Popsicle.
I have never used a long zoom lens. There is a learning curve.
There was a lone water lily out side of the bird house.
nobody is promised tomorrow
The fridge is full, the new lens is in the house. Life should be good today. But, the Lion of the Senate sleeps. Life in not good today. Peace and comfort, Senator Kennedy. I can not remember a time where there wasn’t a Kennedy in political life.
accidental bird
I am still not a wildlife photographer. I was sitting on a wall with my L1 with the macro lens attached. And, a really dumb goldfinch landed right next to me. That is where this picture came from. I guess this bird had spent its entire life in the Nature Conservancy lot and has not clue that people should be avoided. Or maybe he just loves cone flower seeds.
Well…
The CT Scan is done. It was not an experience that instills confidence in our hospital. The computer system refused to let me register for the process. And then halfway thru the procedure the electricity flickered off and on and the CT machine’s computer needed to be rebooted. I was stuck in the machine and had just been injected with the dye – so they couldn’t wait for the computer to restart. (It must be a Microsoft system). So, I wiggled out of the machine and ran across the hall and hopped into another CT machine. And, apparently the dye was still roaming around my interior parts. Hopefully, they’ll not call tomorrow saying a do over is in order.
Now, since the lens is en-route… I must schedule the next procedure tomorrow. One must keep up one’s end of Faustian deals.
Rationalized
Ordered the lens. Now, I have to follow the urology path to its end.
On rationalization
I lust after the rare as hen’s teeth Panasonic 14-150mm f/3.5-5.6 Vario-Elmarit lens for my L1. I found one for sale in the US for $1,700. Now for rationalization.
I figure I have ten more years of enough vigor, hand/eye coordination and steadiness left to schlep a one pound of glass around. Works out to less than $200 per year. Well, never mind that the purchase of the lens will send me into a quest for a backup L1 body.
But, what if, the upcoming medical procedures prove to be positive which is medical speak for very bad. Well, then I have maybe 10 months of shooting time left – which is $200 a month. And forget about the backup body. (Camera body, that is). The result of this scenario being, Carlton gets $1,700 fewer dollars and daughter gets the L1 and it’s killer glass. And, she can say “why did Peg use this strange camera, she could have dropped a bundle on Canon glass.”
All things considered, I am well on my way to getting the lens. Best not wait too much longer. If I found it – others will have as well.
