Glorious Summer Day

Yellowfin Goatfish
Yellowfin Goatfish

Today was a glorious warm sunny summer day. Above and below the water.

We continue feasting on meatballs. Today, I mixed up some salsa, catsup and mustard and nuked meatballs in that – which then was the basis for meatball subs. The Safeway here makes mighty good french rolls – which finished off the subs.

The food fairy provided 3 HUGE avocado today.

Wandered by the bookstore today. I am happy to report that there were plenty Sarah Palin books around, but Stephen King’s latest offering was running low.  Speaking of Sarah, didn’t someone tell her that only male elephants turn “rogue”.

Still waiting on “them” to tell us we don’t need so many colonoscopies!

Thursday 19 November

Carlton
Carlton hits the showers

I am starting to sink into carefree careless Polynesian paralysis. No problem with that.

The food fairy provided lots of meat balls. We will be having meat balls with everything. Today I nuked some meat balls and when they were hot – I added some sour cream and called them Swedish meat balls – sorry Sweden. It was pretty good. Added tomato, avocado and foccotia bread. (The food fairy delivered foccotia bread too)

politics and medicine aside…

Walker - Groundskeeper

Walker – our next “room” neighbor and hotel groundskeeper

Politics and medicine aside… I bet that if the government had said that we don’t need as many colonoscopies there would not be outraged cries of “government rationing” but rather dancing in the streets.

Oops the power just went off – but for some the internet seems to be hanging on. Will quickly post this.

Lunch is late these days – 3:30pm today. But it was worth the wait. Yellowfin Tuna – 4 minutes in the steamer bag seasoned only with pepper, lemon and a little butter. Rice, avocado and tomato to round out the meal. Around 8:30, we’ll have a little turkey sandwich with some fresh pineapple.

Take that swine flu

The Swine is not an illness – it is the main event at the luau

Been puttering around with Lightroom 3 Beta. It is almost an almost perfect match with my needs. Main problem is that it is really really slow on adding new images to the catalog. Painfully slow. Might be a deal breaker. I hope not. Maybe it is a beta problem or maybe it is something that I don’t seem to understand.

Carlton “works” from 10 to 3 – Wednesday to Saturday. So our “weekend” is over.

internet busted today

If you have ever been to a parade in Kona – you will understand that this is typical.

The internet was busted today, and of course, I was sure that I had busted it. Or at the very least dinged it. But, “I only got a new SDHC card reader”… And after that the internet was busted. Actually, I am pretty sure that my very flakey wireless provider just wigged out for most of the day.

Took the underwater camera out today. Conditions not ideal. Pictures not worth keeping. Deleted them all. I am not making much headway organizing the old images. But I am managing to catalog and cull the new ones. Maybe that is progress.

Street work today

Sam sells coffee and hats on the street

The street was closed this afternoon. Vendors and musicians gathered to play and sell. Our friend Sam Ah Hoy sells his coffee and hats. He makes fine lau hala chapeau. I may commission one. I can not buy an “off the rack” one – because I have a really big head.

Cooking note to self: Hawaiian Green Beans – steam in the microwave for 12 minutes to make done enough for Carlton.

This winter, I am experimenting with microwave steamer bags. I was going to get a little crockpot this winter – but decided that microwave steamer bags will require less cleanup.

Coffee Parade Today!

There is always room for more, isn't there?
There is always room for more, isn't there?

No parade pictures – I encountered “technical difficulties”. Used a “new improved” SD card in my camera in honor of the parade. Only after the parade did I discover that my “old not improved” SD card reader would not read the “new improved” SD card. I am sure that a trip to WalMart will yield a “new improved” card reader. But, I decided to go swimming and will get up the hill to WalMart sooner or later.

The parade was for the Coffee Festival. Now that is a festival that I can get behind. We had the Coffee Queen and the Coffee Princesses, no Coffee King however. Three marching bands – which is about every marching bands on the island. The usual big trucks and homemade floats.

Still not a wildlife photographer

Dolphins from the room

This winter is devoted to all things photographic. This includes taking pictures of living moving creatures.

Carlton seems to be getting over the pig flu. I haven’t gotten it (yet).

Note to old people: at least one old person, i.e., Carlton was not protected from swine flu by virtue of age. You can not believe everything your government tells you.

Note to Obama: LBJ is dead – so you can not ask him about what to do in Afghanistan. But, Mr Gorbachev is very much alive. Invite him to dinner. Talk story.

sick call

Carlton seems to be getting better. My biggest problem is keeping him from going out and about and exposing the population to the swine flu. I was hoping for rain today to help. As you can see from the picture – no such luck.

breaking news

Surfer at Honl’s – L1

I think that Carlton has the swine flu. He sure as hell has some kind of flu.

Of course he will not consider going to the doctor – and since I am pretty sure it be the flu – I agree. I do not agree that going for a nice swim in the ocean is a good idea.

Winter storm warning just announced on our TV. Expecting lots of rain and a little snow up top.

Another day of getting settled in.

Dinner is going to be nuked potato with broccoli and cheese. Had fine turkey and cheese sandwiches with avocado and tomato salad for lunch.
