Everyone seems a little more nervous about terrorists
here in the DC area today. So, I went to check out my "Doomsday
Shelf." I always kept a modest "Doomsday Shelf" -
my smallkidtime as an Army brat training dies hard. Also, our electrical
service is only marginally reliable in the 'hood. But, since returning
from Alaska - I have made an effort to keep 6 days easy - 18 days
OK supply of food on the shelf. It will not be gourmet, or even
well balanced - and if we can not get more provisions in two weeks
- well, the country will be in deep shit and us old codgers best
be checking out anyhow. I am giving some consideration to adding
a box or two of "no doze" tablets. If I don't get my caffeine
- I might as well be dead!
That isn't all of the provisions. There is also 12
cans of tuna fish. And some chocolate bars. The tuna is on another
shelf - and the chocolate bars are stored in a safe location. Safe
from Carlton. And there are jugs of water - but not enough - stashed
in the garage.
We have had two real Doomsday Dinners this spring
- due to lack of electricity.
