Software. Free software. There is lots of it out there, most of it is By Geeks, For Geeks. Not really user friendly.

And then there is Open Office. It is free. And, it works. Microsoft Office 2003 the professional edition costs almost $500. Open Office cost nothing. It reads and writes Office documents. It doesn't hog up as many computer resources. Documents saved in Open Office native format are smaller than the MS Office counterparts.

It does some things that MS Office doesn't do. I am getting ready to do a reinstall of Windows XP and MS Office might not get reinstalled. For sure - I'll be very reluctant to upgrade or buy a Mac version - if I defect to the Mac camp.

Consider checking it out - Open Office.
