feeding the lion - 16 feb 2002
Janet Jackson concert for HBO is in Honolulu tonight.
Every garage band in the area is playing just out side our hotel
today. As the night rolls in the bands are getting better. Current
band is playing "Eddie Would Go". Eddie Aikau was a legendary
surfer and waterman. In the late 1970's the Hokule'a, capsized about
12 miles from land - Eddie went for help on a paddle board - he
was never seen again. Everyone on the canoe was later rescued. After
that, "Eddie Would Go" became an expression of being willing
to do anything for the welfare of friends and family. An expression
of courage. And everything good about being Hawaiian. In his honor
the Quicksilver Surfing contest is held - but only when the waves
are monster.
The lions danced. It is customary to feed the lion.
Pictures of Dead Presidents are the lions favorite food.
