At the upmarket dinner at Wolf Trap - they had these
strange flatten or squashed peaches. I didn't think they were ripe
but liberated one in my purse. Came home and did some research.
Seems that it is called a donut peach. (Are you listening Massachusetts?)
They were originally from China where the Court Mandarins favored
these peaches because they were easier to eat. They came to the
US in the late 1800's but never caught on. Until now. Some marketing
dude decided that "donut peach" was more marketable than
"Chinese peach" or "flat peach".
