funeral - kailua pier - 15.feb.03
Nice sunny day today. Snow on top of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Antiwar
protests all over the world today. None on our island.
waimea quilt show - 15.feb.03
Early this morning we went up to Waimea to see the quilt show.
Along the way we checked out the snow on the mountain tops and enjoyed
several rainbows.
Late this afternoon - a fine funeral off the pier. A big time canoe
paddler. So, the canoe club brought out two splendid old wood canoes.
The dearly departed went out in one of the canoes. A conch shell
blower went out in the other wood canoe. Other club members went
out in single canoes and in the club's regular fiberglass canoes.
Additional club members and friends stood on the pier holding torches
and blowing conch shells. In time the canoes came back and everyone
went off to a luau. Which, three hours later, is still going strong.
No a bad way to go out.
