Men wore capes made of ti leaf-called 'ahu la'i - to keep dry in rainy weather.
(Platintype by H.W. Henshaw, ca. 1895, Bishop Museum, Honolulu, Hawai'i.)

Yes, it is raining again. I am reminded that in the Hawaiian language there are about 300 words for rain. Every cloudburst, every drizzle, has a name rich in poetry, describing its specific characteristics or its unique effects on particular plants, animals or places.

In these soggy times, I try to remember that rain, in all her forms is a blessing. For when the heaven weep, the earth prospers.

Still on track for a relocation scouting trip. At this instant, I am interested in Norfolk VA.
