Apparently lots of these birds, the Java Temple Finch I believe, got killed by the recent storm. But, plenty remain. They are generally considered a pest bird. Feeding them isn't exactly encouraged behavior - sort of like feeding pigeons.

Big crime wave on the Hilo side. Someone is robbing soda machines. Owners are told to lock up their soda machines at night. $1000 reward is offered for arrest and conviction...
