arlington farm market - 21.aug.04

Took the subway to the Arlington Farmer's Market this morning. Registered to vote in Arlington County. This election is too important to not vote. Also too important to vote for Ralph.

Had a little adventure with the smoke detectors in the apartment. I decided to make us a frozen pizza for lunch. Bad idea. When the oven hit 450 degrees - the smoke detectors went off. Carlton hops up on the ladder and takes the batteries out. Another bad idea - because now the smoke detectors are annoyed about their missing batteries as well as being offended by the oven. Either our neighbors are very understanding, very deaf, or very not at at home. The darn things screamed for 8 or 9 minutes. Carlton went downstairs. I discovered the detectors had an "off" button. Who knew? So, then they were only whimpering for their batteries. Carlton returned. We ate our pizza. And then got the batteries back in the detectors. Fortunately, the fire department didn't show up. Fortunately, the neighbors didn't take a fire ax to us. So much for frozen pizza on a rainy afternoon.
