Ah ha! While fixing lunch today - I noticed that the exhaust fan simply moves the hot air from the stove top area to the just above the microwave. Which is closer to the darn smoke detector. No wonder the exhaust fan didn't do squat. We have this very attractive kitchen designed for people of don't cook but like to look like they cook. Sort of like having an off-road SUV and just driving it to the mall.
