The Smithsonian had an exhibit about those fun '50s when we learned to love the bomb. But, one good thing came out of the bad old days. The Bikini. No, not the atoll - but the bathing attire.
The modern bikini was invented almost simultaneously by Jacques Heim and Louis Reard in the summer of 1946. Heim called his swimsuit "Atome - the world's smallest bathing suit." A few weeks later, Reard advertised his as "Bikini - smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world."
We didn't elect him and we don't have to keep him.
