My trip gear - 05.jul.05

About fireworks. We can not see the big expensive Washington Monument area fireworks. Not from our apartment. Most likely not from any were in our building. The view of the Mall is very choice and it is already taken. Like beach front property. But, we could hear the fireworks.

And - everywhere that we could see the horizon - we could see fireworks. Way far distant fireworks. Some were peeking over the trees - others shot up and exploded. Like dandelions gone to seed. It was a little like watch a war on CNN.

Stuffed my gear in the little backpack. Stuffed is the operative word. It might be nice to have a little more room in the bag. That will mean leaving something behind. OR, wearing more clothes on the plane! Or putting some of my clothes in my purse. OR just take nothing except electronic toys. And buy everything that I need. OR take no electronics. Just a note pad and pencil. Options abound.

Getting a little crabby in my old age. Crabby about religious zealots. And crabby about political correctness. Tired of Islamic zealots that want to kill me. Tired on Christian zealots that want to control me. Tired of following a live and let live philosophy in this Balkanized world. I am out of touch. And I don't care.

Also worried about Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. By all rights, I should be opposed to him becoming a Justice on the Supreme Court. But then the conservatives pounced on him. Does this mean I should support him? Is this a very elaborate ploy - hatched by the conservatives improve the odds in Gonzales's favor? Would/could Karl Rove do something like that? You bet.
