After swimming around with my friend the turtle, I made a list of possibilities for next summer's Granny trip for Granny Doris and Granny Peg.
1. Spend 2 weeks in London - shopping, sightseeing, theater.
2. Spend 2 weeks in Paris - shopping, sightseeing, eating.
3. Spend 2 weeks in Rome - shopping, sightseeing, eating.
4. Spend 2 weeks in Florence - shopping, sightseeing, eating.
5. Do all 4 of the cities.
6. Do 2 of the cities.
7. Spend 2 weeks in Switzerland - with an unlimited train pass. Ride the rails,
go on the lake boats, take every tram and gondola to the top of every mountain.
Consider it hiking without sweating. Enjoy lots of cheese and chocolate along
the way. Take an occasional small “hike” – really just a
nice walk.
8. Spend 2 weeks in the Ticino - southern-warm-Italian speaking - region of
Switzerland. It is an easy trip down to Milan.
9. Spend 2 weeks in Vienna. Eating, Shopping, sightseeing. Could train over
to Prague, Krakow etc. for a long day or overnight trips.
10. Spend two weeks touring around Austria by train.
11. Go to Brussels or Luxembourg. Setup camp. Ride the rails all over Belgium
and Luxembourg and Western France. But, instead of returning every night -
consider staying overnight in some of the towns that we visit. We could zip
over to Paris for a couple of days - political conditions permitting. And
go over to Germany.
12. Setup camp in Nice and see some of Riviera.
13. Go to Cape Town, South Africa. Don’t know about the weather. It’s
winter down there in the summer.
14. Cruise around French Polynesia. Don’t know if this would work date-wise.
15. Two weeks in Singapore - at Raffles Hotel? Not sure if it might not be
monsoon season. Maybe a bad idea.
16. The USA option - Visit New York, Chicago, San Francisco. Any other ideas?
17. Oh, Canada – Quebec City, Vancouver, Lake Louise, and Victoria –
by train maybe one way?
18. Take the Queen Mary to or from London and spend week in London. (Don't
know if the dates would work - we would go steerage.)
19. Would 2 whole weeks in Venice be fun?
20. How about Sweden? With a side dish of Norway and Finland. Via Train and
boat.
The Menu: Lunch - Made some shoyu-chicken and nuked mysterious Japanese noodles. One is never too sure about these strange packages of Japanese food with very little English labeling. But, it was fine, considering. Added some tangerine and pineapple. Dinner - Sausage sandwiches and avocado.
