EXCEL has been voted off the island. Yesterday it refused to save my most important spreadsheet. "Sorry excel has encountered an error and has to shutdown". After going thru this 5 or 6 times I tell "Yes, you can report this to the mother ship." After reporting this error to the left coast - Microsoft asks "Would you like to know how to prevent this error in the future?" "You bet - tell me" Microsoft tells me that EXCEL 2000 is no long supported and I should buy a newer version.
They got that right. WWW.OPENOFFICE.ORG here I come. OO didn't have any trouble opening the offending spreadsheet and it was happy to save it - even in EXCEL format.
I am still in computer twilight zone. The big computer is nearly dead. I will run Ubuntu from CD. And if I take the disk out and give it a couple of thumps on the mouse pad - the drive will work for another 30 minutes or so. The little computer - well it tries hard. But... At the very least it needs a clean install
I plan to try to score a computer on eBay later tonight. Fujitsu has been selling all of its pricier XT based machines off on eBay. I am looking at a red one! Only problem it isn't a touch screen and the disk is only 30 gig. But, with what I save - a nice fat new external drive can be had. Or maybe a new iPod. It could be the external drive.
I feel much compassion our local political types and their issues with recurrent cancers. Everyone would like to "Be like Lance". But, that might not be in the cards for everyone. May Ms Edwards and Mr Snow find peace and comfort.
