the great american fanny pack
This lady went swimming with her fanny pack. Yes, she went under water with it attached to her person and yes, it is a fanny pack - not a weight belt. Why do traveling Americans sprout fanny packs? I think the fanny pack syndrome is related to the white athletic shoe complex.

Bloomberg reports:
A California company has recalled 143.4 million pounds of beef products said to be unfit for human food by the Department of Agriculture in the largest meat recall in U.S. history.
Westland/Hallmark Meat Co. of Chino, CA is taking back all raw and frozen products it produced since Feb. 1, 2006, because the cattle didn't receive complete and proper inspection, according to a department statement.
Now, to me, the spooky thing isn't the recall of 140+ million pounds of beef - but that it goes back two years. TWO YEARS. How long do they keep that stuff around? A good reasaon to become a vegan.
