Wandered over to check out our neighborhood lighthouse. Still in use. But solar powered now.
The present Thurston Lighthouse (officially known as the Kailua Minor Light), a pyramidal concrete tower, was built under the Bureau of Lighthouses in 1915 and replaced a fixed lens-lantern that was established in 1909. Sometime after 1986, it was converted to solar. The light sits on Kuka’ilimoku Point and marks the northwestern side of Kailua Bay.
