Sunny spring day in Geneva
And how do I happen to be here in Geneva? One of the world's most expensive cities? The Swiss frank and the US dollar are worth about the same. Which makes it really easy to realize that a cheese sandwich actually costs $12.
this car zipped past while I was in line for ice cream
Geneva is not like Kansas. every other car seems to to a Mercedes - and not a cheap one. Porsche's are all over the place. They even have Rolls' and Ferrari's in abundance. And Geneva is close enough to France and Italy to make the horn a part of every trip behind the wheel.
The shops were closed by the time I made it to the shopping district. Not to worry - I couldn't have gotten past the price tag, But, there was snow on the mountains, the sun was shinning, hot air balloons filled the air and boats floated on the lake. What is not to love?
But, I'll be heading back to France tomorrow. Assuming I can get the train to go where I want it to go, This morning, I trotted over to the Metz train station. I had a schedule, It said that a train would go to Lyons at 8:20 - but no train. Now, there were several footnotes and color codes - who knows what it said. But, I had checked out-of the hotel, it was cold and cloudy. It was time to go. The only trains leaving anytime soon - one was heading for Nancy and the other to St. Avoid. Truthfully - St Avoid was caused by an burnt out LED - the train was actually going to St Avold. Nevertheless, I decided to go to Nancy. 30 minutes later, I get to Nancy. No train going to Lyon in sight. The next train is going to Bale. I discover that Bale is French for Basel. Worked for me. Ended up in Basel. Castle-like things started appearing on the top of hills, vineyards happened. Basel didn't call out to me - but Basel has real *english speaking" ticket sellers. So, I score ticket to Geneva. By the time I get to Geneva I am tired of the train and the lake looks inviting, That is how I ended up here.
Still have to find my way back to France, Just add money and and train it.
