Lowell River Walk - 11.jul.02
Another great day today - weather wise. Mid 70s, bright sun. Blue
sky. Took yet another stroll along the river walk this evening.
Spent some time this morning tweaking my portfolio. I remember
in the summer of 1997 when we were in North Dakota, the Chief of
Interp came bounding out of his office announcing "The Dow
broke 8800. The Dow broke 8800". Well, it did it again.
I sold some Intel - and replaced it with Smithfield Foods. (They
are the ham guys. Never mind that I haven't eaten a pork chop in
decades.) And, I sold all of my Southern Company. (They are an electric
company in Georgia.) Why, you might ask? Well, they sponsor a golf
tourney. So did World Com. Now why on earth would an electric company
sponsor a golf tourney? I can only figure it is for the personal
pleasure of management. I replaced Southern with some more of Genuine
Parts. The Napa guys. Standard and Poor says "don't buy this
stock because management is too conservative." Sounded pretty
good to me.
Needless to say, none of the above is to be considered investment
advice. Gee, I wonder if Dunkin Donuts is a public company?
